AntMe! Community Website and Identity
The original requirements for the project were to create a community website for AntMe!, an innovative software project that teaches beginners the basics of programming in an engaging way.
AntMe! is a joint venture of AntMe! Ltd. and Microsoft Deutschland that has enjoyed increasing popularity in recent years. It gained the interest not only of those who wish to learn programming but also of educational institutions that have started to use the project in their curriculum. AntMe! got its name from the fact that aspiring developers learn to create an artificial intelligence for an ant colony by using simple programming instructions.
We used Telligent's Community Server as a platform for the community site. We thoroughly customized it to match the AntMe! look.
At the outset of designing the website we reviewed the existing visual identity and redesigned it after discussing the matter with the customer. During this process, more or less as a sideline, we created two cartoon figures representing two different strategies of ant colonies. The two ants quickly gained popularity and subsequently appeared on numerous t-shirts and other printed items. One of the cartoon ants even made it onto the cover of the official AntMe! book, published by Microsoft Press. The software itself received its own cartoon ants and matching icons for the user interface.
We also created a full-page ad, which appeared in the November 2008 issue of Making Games magazine. Making Games is a quarterly special edition of the German GameStar magazine.
